The multi-channel video installation EYES WIDE SHUT shows the portrait of an adolescent between the ages of 16–18 on each screen. The video images are projected in portrait format and portray the individual from the head down until about the knees. Due to the life-sized projection, the teenagers face us in the exhibition room. They stand before us in everyday clothing, without speaking a word and looking at us directly in the eyes. The portrait recordings, lasting some minutes, repeat themselves by way of what seems to the viewer as being an invisible and infinite loop, thus causing a near resemblance of the relatively static images with only little movement to a photographic portrait. This impression is then intensified by using the most neutral and precise illumination possible; an allusion to the aesthetics of fashion photography becomes apparent. Staged elements of fashion photography are contrasted by the insecurities of the protagonists, which are mainly seen in their gazes. The meaning of fashion as a means of expressing one’s own identity come to the fore.

Die mehrkanalige Videoinstallation EYES WIDE SHUT zeigt auf jeder Projektion das Porträt eines Jugendlichen im Alter zwischen 16 und 18 Jahren. Die Videobilder werden im Hochformat projiziert und bilden die Porträtierten vom Kopf bis ungefähr zu den Knien ab. Durch die lebensgroßen Projektionen treten uns die Teenager im Ausstellungsraum gegenüber. Sie stehen in Alltagskleidung vor uns, ohne ein Wort zu sagen und schauen uns direkt in die Augen. Die mehrminütigen Porträtaufnahmen wiederholen sich in Form einer für den Betrachter unsichtbaren Endlosschleife, was die relativ statischen, nur wenig bewegten Bilder in die Nähe von fotografischen Porträts rückt. Mittels einer möglichst neutralen, präzisen Ausleuchtung wird dieser Eindruck verstärkt – eine Annäherung an die Ästhetik der Modefotografie wird deutlich. Inszenierende Elementen der Modefotografie werden durch die immer wieder auftretenden Unsicherheiten der Protagonisten, die sich hauptsächlich im Blick abspielen, kontrastiert. Die Bedeutung von Mode als Ausdrucksmittel eigener Identität rückt in dieser Arbeit in den Vordergrund.
