The 2-channel video installation REBEL REBEL is based on documentary type footage of the Metal- and Deathcore scene of 2011 and 2012 around the musician David Beule.
The artist’s ten film sequences portray situations out of the life, work and environment of the musician. Even though the camera closes in, the contemplation of the work remains distant and observing. Fascinated by the shimmer of elaborate tattoos, the full on life style and extreme musical expressions, the eye loses itself continually in details only in the next moment to regain a distance which releases the personality lying behind the images.
The work was produced in the framework of the Sparkasse Köln/Bonn sponsorship programme, supervised by SK Stiftung Kultur.

Die Zweikanal Videoinstallation REBEL REBEL basiert auf dokumentarischen Aufnahmen, die 2011 und 2012 in der Metal- und Deathcore-Szene rund um den Musiker David Beule entstanden sind.
In zehn Sequenzen gegliedert zeigt die Arbeit verschiedene Situationen aus Leben, Alltag und Umfeld des Musikers. So nah die Kamera dem Geschehen auch kommt, bleibt die Betrachtung zunächst distanziert und beobachtend. Fasziniert von einer schillernden Oberfläche aus aufwändigen Tätowierungen, ungebremstem Lebensstil und heftigstem musikalischen Ausdruck verliert sich der Blick immer wieder in Details, um im nächsten Moment die Distanz zurück zu gewinnen und den Blick auf die dahinter liegende Persönlichkeit freizugeben.
Die Arbeit wurde im Rahmen des Förderprogramms der Sparkasse KölnBonn, betreut durch die SK Stiftung Kultur produziert.
